What do you feel are your major strengths as a teacher?

September 8th, 2008 by timmywallace

I feel I am able to really get to know each of my students as a person–as an individual. I try to get a feel for what strategies work with each one. They do not all learn the same and what works for one may not for another. I have always tried to be as flexible as possible –for example , one year a student was very ADHD and was able to work more efficiently by standing at his desk sometimes when it was too difficult for him to sit still. One student was claustrophobic and this year my classroom was very small and with the kids in there it was close quarters. So I would let him put his desk in the doorway (there was still room to get by in case of an emergency) and this put him at ease while he worked. It is easier in special education to do this with smaller rosters of students, of course.
I always seemed to have no problem keeping my group under good classroom management. They always felt at ease and that it was a safe environment for them to be themselves but knew when to stop before crossing that line–I respect them and they respect me.
I also try to be sensitive to their needs and what may have happened at home the night before or that morning to make them act out or fall asleep in class. I try to talk with them to get to the root of their possible problem and come up with a solution that will help them be successful in the classroom, and hopefully later on in life.

Tamron 55-200?

August 11th, 2008 by timmywallace

Some Tamron lenses are exceptional lenses like the 28-75mm f/2.8 which comes in a Nikon mount or the 70-200mm f/2.8 which is also available for the Nikon camera. But these two lenses combined will cost around $1,100.00 versus $100.00 dollars you are paying for the 55-200mm lens. Granted, this is a starter lens, but when you outgrow it, you may not be able to recover your investment. And surprisingly, you may outgrow this lens much quicker than you anticipate.

In the long run, your best bet is to go with the lenses designed by your camera manufacturer. If you choose to pick up a lens from another manufacturer, then the better Tamrons will give you a better photography experience than the lower priced models.

I hope this helps in your quest for another lens.

What’s the best way yo thicken & green up my lawn at this time of year?

August 10th, 2008 by timmywallace

HI:
I am asuming you are going to into the fall season. The best thing you could do is to aerate the ground, overseed and fertilize. Use a slow six month release nitrogen fertitizler. This should help with your grass growing next season. I am not sure what geographic zone you are in, but if it is fall, your grass will do well if you follow this process.

1.Aerate first - you can rent one at most rental places
2. Overseed -
3. Fertilize -

If your weather conditons are real dry - maintain your present watering schedule or make sure you start one, so the seed will take.

I have a page on my website for preparing for fall and it also talks about taking care of your lawn. I hope this has helped some and good luck to you with your lawn.

What is the best luxury car to purchase?

August 9th, 2008 by timmywallace

How are BMW’s overrated? It seems that in every single tst, BMW wins hands down for performance. I agree with you on liking BMW and Benz’s more than Lexus and Infiniti. It seems as if those cars have no soul and just look boring. Take fore example the Lexus LS. It is a great car packed in technology, and a wonderful engine. This is a great car, get Lexus manages to pack it in an extremely bland frame that is forgetable by most. I don’t want my car to blend in if I am paying above $70,000. It really depends on which model you prefer.

3-Series is better that C-Class

5 Series is better than E-Class

7 Series is worse than S-Class

X3 is worse than ML

X5 is better than GL

Z4 is better than SLK

3 Series Coupe is better than CLK

6 Series is better than SL

It really matters on opinion. BMW has put performance over comfort for years, MB has put comfort over performance for years. Take a look at Audi. They have made some great products lately. The A6 and the new A5 are amazing cars. The best car on the road today is the S-Class by Mercedes.

How do you do a scissor leap? And a double pirouette?

August 8th, 2008 by timmywallace

for the double pirouette…all you do differently is that u need to keep ur core in control and really bring up ur foot to posse as fast as u can…also definatly spot…as long as you have a good spot that is all the momentum that u need…dont over push to go around…my dance teachers always told me that u need as much power as blowing a feather off of ur hand…they r really simple…also on ur preperation…dont have ur support foot already on 3/4 pointe…start with a flat foot and raise up from there when u turn…it will give u more balance.

the scissor leap im still trying to perfect but what u do is u do a regular brush leap but dont get ur front leg too high…then in the middle of the leap u bring either ur foot through to ur knee and switch it out to the back while switching ur back leg straight through to the front…or u can switch ur legs by brushing them past eachother…u want ur leap to b bigger after u switch then have it be huge and then u cant switch in time before u land…hope this helps and good luck!

I cant renew my ip address!!! Please help?

August 6th, 2008 by timmywallace

if you go to command prompt ( start –> run –> cmd ) press enter or click on ok.

Then type the commands

ipconfig /renew

If that does not work it should give you an error message.

you can right click in the system tray where there are 2 icons of 2 little computers.

And click on repair.

If that does not work then i would suggest calling your ISP as you may need the software for it to work or there may be some activation step you are missing.

not sure if this is the case but its possible that the internet connection only works on your laptop due to the modem linking it to your laptops mac address on your network card , what I did was when I got a router to clone the mac address of the working machine to my router so my router had the same mac address and then the virgin media modem thought that I was still connecting using my computer ( in your case laptop )

Professional agree that bisexual people aren’t capable of defining themsevles as such until the mid twenties

August 5th, 2008 by timmywallace

Nope. The pro’s are so wrong it is untrue. I know it and I’m not even gay, and if you’re honest you know it too.

I’m 45 completely straight, quintessential f*g hag apparently (thanks Gareth) but I find the whole thing sooooo confusing.

I’m not sexually attracted to girls, I don’t like gay men (like that,) but I know so many women in partic who have changed from being straight to lesbian in their 30’s and 40’s. That cannot be a phenomenen that is exclusive to homo women.

My theory is that everyone is a combination and they don’t identify as one or the other until they meet someone of the same sex (or opposite in the case of homosexual) who they are attracted to. Now by attraction I don’t mean that superficial physical attraction that intially makes you take an interest in somebody else, I mean the sort of attraction that deepens the more you get to know someone. So even I might be bi. I just haven’t met a woman I’m attracted to enough to love :-).

You are who you are, and you love who you love. Why should labels dictate?

So if you run with my thoery you could discover your sexuality at any age.

Go on thumbs down me if you think I’m wrong.

which is a good place to stay in pondicherry ?

August 4th, 2008 by timmywallace

Hotel Pondicherry Ashok, the only 3 star beach resort, is one of the few beach resorts on the eastern coastline of the vast southern expanse of The Bay of Bengal. On one side the sun and surf washed beach and on the other hand the greens offer you an exquisite mixture of solitude from the far maddening crowd and hustle bustle of the city life.
If u have a good budget, go for Hotel Surya, its pretty good and near to the sea.
If u want a beach view, try getting a room in Hotel Ajanta, must be pretty expensive, and very much on the beach.
If u r staying for just business, and good budget again, Hotel Mass.
If u need a not so expenisive hotel, try Hotel Jayaram, Hotel Rams International.
Or if u just need bed for a night there r plenty of guest houses or inns, for 350 a night.

Why is Mac and Linux are more secure than Windows?

August 3rd, 2008 by timmywallace

To some extent, Mac and Linux are safer because the bad guys get a greater financial return infecting all those Windoze machines. There is also another issue: permissions.

Mac OS X and later are built on BSD Unix. Linux is a free derivative of Unix which can in some contexts be discussed as one, though to officially be a Unix you have to pass a series of tests which nobody can afford to have their distro take. Both use permissions conservatively: most programs which a user uses write to user space. They are not ALLOWED to write to OS space. Thus I keep my basic Firefox runtime files in /usr/lib/firefox but I keep the cookies and so on in .mozilla and other directories in my home account. When I surf the net normally, Firefox’s “Check for Updates” menu item is grayed out. I have to surf the net (quickly) as root in order to make it work, and I only do that so I can run the check for updates menu item. The old joke goes, “Anyone who surfs the net as root might as well be running Windows.” Your internet files in Windows are generally stored in a temp folder — IN YOUR WINDOWS FOLDER.

As for Firewall, anti-virus and anti-spyware, I scanned my computer last night with ClamAV. It reported 1 infected file. Writing malware has become a big business so practice safe computing.
