This was a good series. I enjoyed it for the most part though some times it did get a little slow. There was some question about if their relationship was really romantic or sibling-ish love. I would say that it was romantic, if its not too gross for some people. Hazuki does look a little young for Kouhei and there is a hope that if there is a relationship it would wait till she a little more grown-up. My only problem is with the last episode, it wasn’t really necessary and can be skipped. There was some funnies but mostly you are left saying, “huh?”

This is a fleeting history of the Boer War. Not very accurate and perhaps not the best available. A title in the “War File” Series entitled “The Boer War: A Bitter and Bloody Clash of Arms” is perhaps a better buy.

This is a one sided view of the Boer War - it would have been more pertinent having both views presented.
The scramble for Africa content is not accurate, unfortunately.
As there is scant Visual Material on the Boer war - this will at least be somewhat informative.

This film doesn’t use a lot of footage from movies, so maybe no film about the Boer War was ever produced. Instead of characters acting in the language of the actual deceased individuals, they speak English here. No Dutch, No Afrikaans, etc.

They have only one scholar being interviewed here. Rather than sitting in an expensive leather chair, he seems to be in his university office surrounded by books.

A large fraction of the documentary focuses on British actions in Sudan, rather than in South Africa. Again, it leaves the viewer with the impression that the Boer War is a threadbare topic. Winston Churchill’s name and his actions during the time come up often. Again, it felt like filler, however.

The film stated that actions in the Boer War would later be re-played in both World Wars. However, I was dismayed that the documentary never once says, “These are the ancestors that put apartheid in place, oppressing Blacks in Southern Africa for decades.” Glossing over that tragedy but emphasizing others felt very problematic to me.

What they don’t tell you in the description is that this is NOT pressed like all standard DVDs are. It’s burned on a DVD-R format recordable DVD. Which means it will not play in all DVD Players (only those designed to read DVD-R format). It does not play in my DVD player. These types of DVDs are what you’d see in a bootleg. I’m very suspecious of the company that created this DVD; reelclassicfilms - the website printed on the box doesn’t even work.

After playing this in a friends DVD Player that can play DVD-R discs, I noticed that the picture quality is horrible. This DVD is bogus and should be avoided. Get this movie from another source, I’m surprised Amazon.com would sell bootleg DVDs

The picture quality is so bad that half the time you can’t even see the faces of the actors!

This movie unlike the secret, is a movie which moves deeper in the spiritual implications of the existense of a natural law like “the law of attraction”. People who haven’t experienced God personaly will simply not bag the messeges encoded here.

People who live deeply in “ego-mode” will abominate it.

But for those who are in vibrational alignment with it, there will be plenty of “messages” to tap into.

After their resounding success in “You’ll Never Come By Rich” it remained kismet that Fred Astaire and Rita Hayworth would reunite for another glossy film musical. The project; “You Were Never Lovelier” is a brave successor to the aforementioned and, in truth, excels beyond the expectations of their previous venture. Astaire plays a penniless hoofer from Fresh York who, through a series of mishaps, comes to the attention of Senior Acuna (Adolph Menjou) while on a vacation in Buenos Aires. Acuna has honest married off his oldest daughter and, as his family tradition dictates, the rest of his daughters must earn married in sequential order. The two youngest daughters are already fixed with a pair of tennis beaux, but the eldest unmarried daughter, Maria (Hayworth) is not only an ice princess of the highest order, but refuses to marry under any circumstance. That is, until she begins receiving orchids from an unknown admirer. The accumulate by Jerome Kern is magnificent; the poignant `Dearly Beloved’, the jazzy `Shorty George’ and the classy `I’m Traditional Fashion’. The latter two songs are danced by Astaire and Hayworth with such polish and finesse that it’s impossible not to marvel at their grace and style. THE TRANSFER: Outstanding. While “You’ll Never Rep Rich” suffered from an overall dated appearance, “You Were Never Lovelier” appears to have been the benefactor of a digital restoration at some point. It’s sad and white report is handsome and detached. There are brief and minor occasions where shapely details slightly shimmer, but these do not distract from your visual pleasure. Glowing detail is fully realized. There is a resounding absence of age related artifacts. Digital anomalies are not an advise. The audio is mono but exceptionally well balanced - at times sounding very finish to having a stereo spread.Buy,Download, Or Stream You Were Never Lovelier! Click HereEXTRAS: Sorry, none!BOTTOM LINE: “You Were Never Lovelier” has certainly never looked more stunning than in its DVD incarnation. An absolute must have for your library!

I bought this film on laser disc years ago & have watched it at least a dozen times & never tire of watching it - from beginning to ruin. Starting with Jerome Kern’s fair melodies (Dearly Beloved is one of those classics that was covered by unbiased about every stout jazz group), it’s crammed with the finest talent Hollywood, in its prime, had to offer. Astaire never danced better - solo or with Rita. The number with the cane in Acuna’s office is absolutely thrilling - hair-raising in its virtuosity & dexterity. I’ve repeated the Shorty George dance track a dozen times in a row. It gets better each time. Makes you want to dance. Rita really was never lovelier (no one was) - how could one woman be so regal & elegant & sexy & a sensational dancer all at the same time? What else? Cugat’s comic, his band is incredible & you gain to inspect him do one of his signature caricatures (of Menjou - another one they broke the mold of) . It impartial doesn’t regain any better than this.

This Arthaus Musik DVD production is of a 2008 live performance in Torino. During the performance, the audience keeps remarkably silent, with minimal coughing. Massenet called this opera a lyrical comedy, which is a misnomer - there’s nothing even faintly amusing about it. To me, the opera’s key point is irony; the monk Athanael persuades the courtesan Thais to abandon her ’sinful’ life and seek redemption; meanwhile, he succumbs to earthly desires by falling in love with her.

The aural component - beautiful music - is at odds with this visual presentation, which includes many semi- or nearly-naked people leaping, gyrating, or writhing around the stage to represent - what? If you like futuristic sets with generous helpings of surrealism and/or symbolism, this production will probably please you. Symbolism is acceptable if one understands the point; if not, one is left perplexed, even irritated. Thus, in Act 1 scene 1; the camera zooms out to show the monks on an upper level and a completely different setting below, which represents - what? All of this was wasted on me; I would have preferred sets in keeping with the opera’s time period - fourth century AD - without the symbolism.
The cast overall is a strong one; Lado Ataneli (Athanael) and Barbara Frittoli (Thais) deliver powerful performances, though I found Frittoli’s prominent vibrato, especially on some high notes, very distracting. In Act 3, she is dressed in white - depicting, perhaps, her deliverance from sin - which is at odds with her low-necked, very revealing dress. The supporting cast all deliver sound performances.

[Caveat: This review was written for the non-Blu-Ray DVD of this opera. I cannot comment about the differences between it and this Blu-Ray version.]

Stefano Poda’s production of Thaïs at the Teatro Regio of Turin is lushly staged, with rich costumes, impressive sets, interesting lighting. But the production itself falls flat, largely because this opera, whose story centers on the beguiling allure and fleshly attractions of its title character, does not emphasize that aspect of the story. Rather Poda seems to be going for something more philosophically profound than a story of sin overcome by religious conversion. We get the conversion without much evidence of the sin. (Where is Carol Neblett’s scandalously unclad San Francisco Opera Thaïs when we need her?) First of all, Barbara Frittoli, quite a physically attractive soprano, is given little to do to make use of her innate beauty. Rather, she and the other prostitutes are clothed in black floor-length gowns which completely cover their bodies and lend little to the notion that she and they are physically irresistible. The whole production involves characters moving with marmoreal slowness and interacting little with each other, and there is some evidence to suggest that they don’t understand the contents of the libretto. For instance, when Athanaël, the Cenobite monk, is, according to the text, being dressed more appropriately for the party at his friend Nicias’s house, he doesn’t change his attire or his appearance. The whole production comes across more as a staged oratorio. That plays up the religious aspects of the story but it makes Thaïs’s ultimate religious conversion seem unsurprising rather than shocking.

Barbara Frittoli sings beautifully. Her spinto voice has many colors and she uses them skillfully. Indeed it is her musical participation that contributes most to whatever satisfaction one derives from the production. The Georgian bass-baritone, Lado Ataneli, certainly looks the part but his performance is rather colorless and uninflected; there is little passion in the last act. (One is struck that Ataneli’s surname is so similar to that of his character, Athanäel. I wonder if that has anything to do with his having learned the part?) Tenor Alessandro Liberatore sings a fine Nicias. Choreography was also by Poda and it was both dull and intrusive; for instance, the score clearly indicates that the famous ‘Meditation’, marked ‘religious’, is to be played in front of the curtain. Instead the stage is filled with dancers doing nothing special nor specially religious. Gianandrea Noseda is in the pit and leads a slowish but nicely nuanced performance.

I have not seen the DVD of Thaïs starring Eva Mei, a soprano whose acidulous voice I cannot endure; I gather that production has not been much admired by others. And as far as I know that one and this production are the only DVDs of Thaïs available. In the meantime stick with the audio recording of the opera with Renée Fleming and Thomas Hampson, and hope that the Met’s fine production of 2008 (with Fleming) makes it to DVD.

The genre of family-oriented computer involving feature film, invented and pioneered by Pixar Animation Studios, has seen a spacious decline in the past couple of years. Now, every other movie studio churns out another one in hopes of being the next Toy Narrative or Finding Nemo. In this reviewer’s idea, the formula has gotten incredibly feeble. It’s the same thing over and over again - Lots of humor and silliness for the kids, with some clever pop-culture references for adults, lots of talking inanimate objects voiced by recognizable and favorite celebrities, a song by a bankable pop star. Wrap it all up in a radiant, quick-witted package and advertise it on Nickelodeon and network TV and you’ve got a recipe for success. This formula has now been repeated ad nauseam by the movie studios yet parents, in lieu of more shimmering and creative children’s entertainment, snatch it up. Honest peer at the nick of upcoming CG family movies slated for 2005. There are at least four, maybe five.

However, if there is anything that you can depend on in the dead world of computer engrossing movies, it is the name Pixar. Those five letters are quite simply synonymous with quality. They started the genre and collected no one does it better. From Toy Account to Monsters, Inc. to Finding Nemo, Pixar has consistently produced astonishingly high quality films in both entertainment and artistic value. Pixar’s latest, The Incredibles was written and directed by Brad Bird who gave us the astonishing 1999 film The Iron Giant. It is yet another staggering success for Pixar Animation Studios.

The Incredibles is not unprejudiced another stunning computer titillating movie, it completely reinvents and transcends its tired genre. The film boasts extremely arresting writing and plotting (rewarded with a Best Unique Screenplay Academy Award nomination), superior snort acting, incredible conceptual form and, most importantly, the audacity to atomize from the mold and do something different. This is first hinted at by the film’s rating; The Incredibles is Pixar’s first PG-rated movie. It is not fair an assortment of jokes and pop-culture references, it is a fully-realized chronicle focusing on human (sort of) characters and the struggle of living in a society that you don’t fit in with. There are no talking fish, no talking bugs, no talking toys. It’s a genuine movie with steady heart told with wonderful skill and style. It was well-deserving of its Best Moving Feature Academy Award, however the fact that its only competition was Shrek 2 and Shark Account diminishes that achievement. Yes, it’s also an incredibly fun yarn about superheroes with lots of stunts, action, giant robots, superpowers and an infamous villain. I found it to be one of the most satisfying, and best, movies of 2004.

Buy,Download, Or Stream The Incredibles! Click Here

Don’t be deterred by the fact that it’s computer lively and that it’s from the makers of Finding Nemo. You don’t have to be a child or a parent (I myself am neither) to worship this film. It’s a gargantuan movie that anyone can savor and be pleased.

I have been and shall remain a lifelong fan not only of movies, but of amusing books, heroes, etcetera. The exquisite and refreshing The Incredibles blends both together for me - heroes and movies.

I’ll be unprejudiced - in the past (with the exception of the first 2 Toy Narrative movies), when a trailer for a Pixar film was released, I was less than enthused. I have, however, seen every Pixar film and loved them all. The trailers never looked gripping to me until the Incredibles. Shrek, Shark Legend, Ice Age - they’ve got zip on Pixar!

Getting benefit to my review of this film, all I can say is The Incredibles is a winner on all levels. Animation is top notch (increasingly better with each film), converse acting (and the casting selection) is pleasant, cinematography (even though it’s digital) is exceptional, and the gain (especially with The Incredibles) is a perfect fit.

The premise is a fitting portrait of today’s world. All the elegant heroes go into hiding and melt away into ‘normal life’ because of lawsuits pop up from individuals who didn’t want to be saved, therefore causing a public superhero backlash. Naturally, it doesn’t consume long for heroes to re-emerge and once again attach the day from poor exertion while being hoisted benefit into the public spotlight…that’s enough premise/plot…fair sit encourage and delight in the masterfully crafted film by Brad Bird (The Iron Giant) known as The Incredibles.

Whether you’re an adult, child, or man-child, this movie will occupy you in and design you forget you’re watching a movie. The visuals and chronicle is lively and well written. After unbiased having suffered through about 1/3 of the 77th Annual Oscars (many thanks to the creators of TiVo), the highlight of the night for me was The Incredibles winning Best Attractive Feature of 2004 (and Clint Eastwood winning Best Director and Best Portray for Million Dollar Baby) . I was so terrified that the vacuous Hollywood types were going to give the BAF Oscar to the vapid Shrek 2. Thank God the voting members have some sense!

If you like quality films, grasp this DVD now and don’t glance encourage. Indulge In!
