    Good thermostats and customer service
I bought two of these–one to control heat and air (upstairs) and one to cycle the air in the house when downstairs gets too cold–the downstairs unit just controls the fan. They are easy to program and work well. When I got them and I found out they weren’t tall enough to cover the junction boxes on the wall, I e-mailed the manufacturer from their website and they sent me two wall trim pieces at no charge.

    Thermostat review
These are great thermostats, however; I like the previous TX500 (no “E”) models better as they toggle back and forth with a digital readout of the programmed temperature as well as the actual room temperature. My experience with Lux Thermostats is that they are easily programmed and are very affordable. You may also want to note that a thermostat with a back light might be handy which these do not have. The readout window is also kind of small so if you prefer large, you may want to consider this when making your purchase.

    Great Value
Bought this just a few weeks ago and hooked it up myself, nothing to it. The product works great and I was able to program in the settings that met my needs. I would recommend this product. Great product and you cant beat the price at $17,23

    Customer Reviews:

    Great Spy Cam
This spy cam is so simple to use and it takes great videos on an SD memory card. You can put the camera anywhere or mount it on the wall and it will record video for over a month. The videos are in 30 second segments by date and time on the SD card. It connects to the TV with one simple cable (supplied) for viewing and you can fast forward and rewind like a VCR with buttons on the back. It can be used plugged in or can run on batteries. This would be a good nanny cam or in an area you need to monitor for security purposes. The only bad part is that it doesn’t record video well in low light. So, this is a day time cam.

Recorder is okay; Vendor nor so much…
The Defender recorder does a decent job as long as you plan to plug it in for power. Just don’t plan on using battery power, or you will be changing them every two days. The only real functional quirk I’ve run into is that to check the video, I need to unplug it from the power (obvious) to take it over to the TV. But if it is turned off (or unplugged) while recording, the manual says some video can be corrupted. Yet as you approach it, it will turn on from motion detection (sort of an awkward catch 22). Anyway, I can live with that I think, just something to be aware of. What really sucked is that I paid for upgraded premium shipping, but the vendor (JUSTBUYITHERE) took two weeks to ship. I selected the vendor, because they were near by my Southern California location. I thought paying extra for priority shipping meant I would have it in two or three days, but I didn’t receive the item for over two weeks. They did ship priority mail, just not for over a week! Some vendors get it and some just don’t. All I can say is “JUSTBUYITHERE” just BLOWS! I won’t be doing any further business with them, and I recommend you don’t.

    Great Quality Video Output!
Pros: Discreet, Sensitive, Easy To Set Up, Accurate
Cons: Adapter Wire not white, Adapter Wire too short
Best Uses: Spying, Use your imagination
    Describe Yourself:Do-It-Yourself

Overall… it’s a great Device for Discreet spying and monitoring where you like. You can just pop in the SD card in to your card reader and the footages taken starts playing with Windows Media Player. I just wish it had sound as well, But I guess it would use double the memory, so I can see why they did not incorporate sound into it. The video Quality is Great. And for $250 it’s a no brainier. If you are into gadgets and detective work This is definitely a must have. As I mentioned before the adapter wire is too short, though you can just cut the wire and extend it with another wire and use Electric tape to seal it.

Lacks The Raw Thrills of the First Two Death Note Films; L Isn’t as Compelling a Character Without His Nemesis Light Yagami…
L: CHANGE THE WORLD is the spin-off of the highly successful DEATH NOTE and DEATH NOTE: The Last Name. (Marketers would call it Death Note 3) The two films based on the Japanese comic book (also adapted into an anime series) were box-office hits all over Asia, so obviously, Japanese filmmakers, taking a page from Hollywood’s book intends to capitalize on its fame. However, the film seems more of an ode to the series and is aimed generally to diehard fans. Those unfamiliar with the two live action films may be alienated so I suggest you watch those first before viewing this film.

The tale occurs in the final 23 days L (Kenichi Matsuyama) has left in the world. A killer virus had killed the occupants of a small village in Thailand. A former colleague named “F” discovers the secrets of the virus and sends a young boy somehow immune to the fatal disease to L’s doorstep. A few days later, 12-year old Maki ( Mayuko Fukuda) also shows up with a different strain of the virus, described as a combination of Ebola and Influenza. Apparently, her father Nikaido (Shingo Tsurumi) had created the virus and a subversive group called “Blue Ship” is after it. Leader Dr. Kujo (Youki Kudoh) intends to use it to change the world by ridding it of all the useless people who inhabit it–useless people are those who abuse our natural resources; so you can guess exactly just how many people they intend to eliminate.

The film cleverly takes place during the last 23 days of L’s existence. Changing the world by killing “useless” people? The first two films focused on the scum of the Earth, and the theme may be somewhat similar to the “Death Note” franchise in its own way. While “Death Note” dealt with the supernatural and mystical world of “Death Gods”, this time around, the “death god” is man-made. “L: Change the World” isn’t really a bad film but the absence of a real effective villain such as Light Yagami, the film fails to impress. You may say that the villains in this film are pretty routine and the direction by Hideo Nakata while very competent, has so little to work with. “Death Note 1 and 2″ were full of cerebral thrills and they kept me in the edge of my seat. The mind games between Light and L were the two films’ showstopper, and without an effective manga to back this film up, the antagonists were left unexplored and their goals a little too predictable.

L is the same sugar-loving genius, punk rock refugee with bad posture; quirky and full of eccentric charisma. All these seem a little wasted when the genius detective is set against a rather very underwhelming antagonist. Sadly, his displays of outsmarting and staying one step ahead of Dr. Kujo and Matoba neither immerses or impressed me. The main reason why the two Death Note films were so successful is because they were full of surprises and at times quite difficult to predict what may happen next. Every good hero needs a good villain or his exact opposite. The film’s simple exposition makes the film a lot less thrilling and suspenseful but it does eliminate the complexities of the wordy dialogue that some viewers saw that it hampered “Death Note” a little. (not for me though)

Kenichi Matsuyama’s portrayal of L is endearing and charming, and the character does get a lot of character development in place of displays of his super-intellect and cunning brain. The Death Note series focused more on mind games and a somewhat convoluted plotline, this time around, the film focuses more on L’s personality. He develops a warm connection with the young boy (later named “Near”) who is also a mathematical genius. You see more as to how L spends his last days, and it was quite entertaining to see him reject the temptation of the “notebook of death” by burning it. His involvement and compassion for Maki is quite satisfying as he tries his best to comfort her and shows that such an eccentric individual is capable of emotion. L’s “Crepe and Ice Cream mobile” put a smile on my face as I am sure fans will find this very amusing and cute (?). L also tries his hand at being an action hero but all we really see him do is run, climb and straighten his back.

L isn’t as compelling or interesting a figure without a mystical situation with surprising twists or a nemesis such as Light Yagami; you may say they are two sides of the same coin. A hero is only made by the villain he faces? If the producers manage to create a formidable villain worthy of L’s supposed magnificent intelligence, a new franchise may work. The film just isn’t as intense as its two predecessors but at least I found it fun to watch. The film is a little slower-paced than I expected and suspense is only found on occasion and when they are, it may get a bit redundant. The film just doesn’t possess the darkness inherent in the “Death Note” live action films, but for die-hard fans of the series, this film is definitely still worth a look. Others may feel little lost and maybe a little bored without knowledge of this character. This film wasn’t on par with “Death Note” but at least it wasn’t as bad as I feared.

Recommended timidly to fans of Death Note and a good rental for everyone else [3 Stars]

Note: Death Note and Death Note: the Last Name both come highly recommended.

Sure L can “change the world”, but can he “save” it?
    I have a story:

Once upon a time, J.R.R. Tolkien was writing a sequel to the Hobbit. It had a lot of passages where the Hobbits just hung out in the Shire, smoking pipeweed, eating mushrooms, and what-not. He showed these early chapters to his friends. One of them, C.S. Lewis, decided to be frank. He told Tolkien that Hobbits were only entertaining if they were doing unhobbit-like things; things like, going on adventures…

What does this have to do with L and “Death Note”? Well, the makers of this movie decided to do the same thing here: have L do things you wouldn’t expect L to do.

Fans of “Death Note” will know that, when he fights Light, he has all these computers, high-tech gadgets, and people who work under him (the NPA, Watari, Raye & Naomi, Aiber & Wede, etc.). Light just has the Death Note, his wits, and whatever items are at his disposal. Arguably the coolest thing about Light is how he is able to improvise his way out of almost any situation.

Well, this movie basically puts L in Light’s position. The film pits him against a terrorist group; but he can’t use any of his gadgets, assistants, or financial resources. All he has are his wits and whatever he can improvise. They go a little further to put him in Light’s shoes by having Ryuk be his Shinigami companion for a VERY brief period of time (it’s not NEARLY as cool as I’m making it sound; It’s a cameo more than anything else). The terrorist group, meanwhile, has access to all of L’s resources, including his media connections…essentially turning our oddball hero into a fugitive. In a way, this puts L in Mello’s shoes as well.

Long story short, this movie turns L into something of an action hero. It gets weirder though. They actually have him (gasp) making real friends.

So now I’ve answered the first question: “What is it?”

That just leaves us with the next question.

    “Is it good?”

Well…that’s not so easy to say.

Before I get into the good and bad, let me mention that you need to have either seen the other two films or read the spoilers to understand this one.

    The Good:

For one, I think the concept I mentioned above is pretty cool. A big problem is they could have had L break character by putting him in a different genre, but they didn’t. For that alone, I’m quite impressed.

L acts more like the original manga/anime version than he did in the previous films. I don’t know if it was because there was a different director or if the actor just got used to the role by this point. He was “okay” in the other films; just not great. Here, he’s the L we all know and love.

Some of the new characters are pretty good. There’s a doctor that L meets in the second half that I liked a lot. Not only is he the best of the new characters, but I think he would have fit in well in the manga. He was just that good.

    The Bad:

While the concept is cool, the execution just doesn’t live up to it. It seems like they just rushed this movie through production and haphazardly threw everything together.

Despite being in a more “Light-ish” role, L is never backed into a corner the way Light was. I never felt any of that “how-is-he-gonna-get-out-of-this-one” anticipation that I felt with the manga.

A major character is introduced half-way through the movie. He’s an FBI agent. Apparently, he knows all about Watari, but it never says how. For a while, they don’t address why he`s even in Japan in the first place. He just pops out of nowhere like your standard Deus Ex Machinma. I’m guessing they had originally intended for the movie to be longer, but then they cut out about half of this guy’s scenes. They leave just enough of him to confuse you.

The death scenes (yes, the terrorists DO kill people) are clearly MEANT to be scary, but they really just come across as cheesy.

Also, considering that the bad guys are supposed to function as an evil version of L, they sure don’t leave the impression that L himself does. L is eccentric. These guys are just…campy. Oh. Did I mention that the main bad buy is a known terrorist, but that he doesn’t even use an alias or a disguise? Either he’s a moron or Japanese secruity is just that incompetent.

Bonus features are pretty standard. The DVD contains the English dub, the original Japanese audio, the Japanese trailers, the English trailer, and your typical “behind-the-scenes” promotional piece.

We also get an audio commentary. Is it the director? Nope. Is it the folks at VIZ who did the dubbing? Wrong again. This audio commentary is done by two fans: “Death Nerd” and “Patrick”. These two guys kick back, spout out trivia about the franchise and actors, and make jokes. Overall, it was fun, but they got off track a little too much. At one point, they spend some time talking about the kinkier aspects of Japanese culture…that’s just not something I’m comfortable with. Patick. Death Nerd. You guys did a good job and I hope you’ll do more commentaries in the future. Next time, however, try to keep it “approved for all audiences”.

Overall, not as good as the manga, but definitely better than the other two movies (which, aside from the first movie’s EXCELLENT subway scene and the CGI Ryuk, I pretty much hated).

3 Stars for the movie, plus a 4th star thrown in for the (mostly) entertaining commentary.

I think it was the best one(:
L Change the World is a spin-off of Death Note.

In my opinion I liked this one better then the first too. They had a great story line and it shows you what L did the last 23 days he had left to live. You even get to meet some other people from Wammy’s. It’s pretty great.

This movie is just mainly for the big L fans out there. If you love L then I bet you would like this movie.

Ever since I got it i’ve watched it ALOT! I’m kinda addicted to it. xD and I’ve even started acting like L more xD

Anyway, I highly reccomend you watch this movie(:

Great Knife For Every Day Carry
The M16-10KZ is a very well designed knife. I carry a cold steel ti-lite 6″ a lot of the time, but when I want something smaller and more innocuous I carry this knife.

BLADE: The AUS 4 stainless blade features a combo edge, half straight, half serrated, and a tanto point. I’m a big fan of tantos, lots of penetrating power and stronger than a clip point. It holds an edge well, though not as well as its larger AUS 8 counterparts such as the M16-14SF(Columbia River Knife and Tool’s M16-14SF Big Dog Aluminum Tanto Blade Combo Edge Knife). If you’re looking for a larger blade for heavier jobs, I’d recommend the 14SF. The 10KZ, however, is a great tool to have in your back pocket for every day jobs. The thumb stud on this knife is poorly positioned in my opinion - it’s difficult to get enough leverage to open the knife - however this is of little consequence because of the excellent carson flipper on the back. The flipper is easy to use, has a smooth action, and allows for lightning fast, switchblade-like opening. It also doubles as a finger guard when the knife is open, definitely one of the best design features on this folder.

LOCK: This knife features CRKT’s AutoLAWKS locking mechinism, which has an extra lever that prevents the liner lock from being accidentally closed. A lot of people dislike this feature, saying it makes one-handed closing of the knife difficult, but after a little practice I’ve had no problem with it, closing it just as easily as any regular liner lock. The AutoLAWKS provides extra safety and I see it as a plus. It’s tight and opens with a satisfying click. There is no play whatsoever. The center pivot screw is easily adjustable with a flathead screwdriver.

HANDLE: The handle shape is very well designed, fitting comfortably even in larger hands like mine despite the knife being rather small. The Zytel scales are nicely textured, preventing slippage when wet. It’s also tough material - it doesn’t dent or crack easily, and is more or less impervious to water, salt, etc.

CLIP: The only part I don’t like about this knife is the clip. It’s strong and it functions well, but it’s positioned for tip-down carry, meaning you have to turn the knife over after removing it from your pocket before opening it - inconvenient.

Overall, this knife has a lot of great features that I love - the tanto point, the carson flipper, the AutoLAWKS, and the excellent handle. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a tough, lightweight blade for every day use

CRKT M-16-10KZ: A Review of the Good and Bad

Let me start of by saying that CRKT makes some of the best knives out there and the Kit Carson designed M-16 is a fine example of the quality you can expect from CRKT.

The blade is a 3″ high-carbon Tanto-style blade with a triple-point serrated edge. The blade is surprisingly sharp right out of the box. Most knives in this price range usually require some good bit of sharpening when you first get them, but the M-16 was almost razor sharp when I got it. A few passes with a Diamond stone and it was good to go.

The Carson Flipper is really the gem feature of this knife. It allows you to flip open the knife with the speed of a switchblade. The flipper also rotates down into a blade guard position which helps to protect against finger slippage. The knife opens incredibly quickly and locks firmly into position.

The second feature I really like about this knife is the AutoLAWKS safety that is built into the knife. This is basically a red safety knob that you have to pull back in order to close the knife. This prevents the knife from accidently closing on itself. It is a great feature that adds a cool tactical feel to the knife.
The frame consists of a stainless steel liner frame with Zytel back spacers. It is all held together with Torx screws including the Teflon-plated stainless steel clip.

Zytel is basically a super dense nylon with varying amount of fiberglass added to the mix. It feels much harder than normal plastic and the folks at Dupont say Zytel is super durable and abrasion resistant, but I would a little careful if your hands are wet or covered with any type of material that could cause the knife to slip out.

My two dings for the knife are this:

They advertise the size of the knife as 4″ closed and 7.125″ open and this is true. What they don’t mention is that the knife is only about an inch wide at the widest curve of the handle. If you are a guy like me with larger hands, it might feel a little small around the grip. On the flip side, the narrow profile of the knife allows you to carry it around in your pocket and not even notice it is there. This is a VERY comfortable knife to carry.

The other ding is one that is common to this type of folding knife. When opening quickly the internal leaf-spring that locks the blade into place can and sometimes lock into a stuck position on the upper section of the frame. This can make it extremely difficult to depress the spring to close the knife. This problem can sometimes disappear as you break the knife in so time will tell.

All in all the CRKT M-16 is an excellent knife for the money. A close competitor is the Smith & Wesson Extreme Ops Tanto, but the M-16 blows it away.

does the job, safe, and very affordable
I just needed a small lockblade for everyday use at work, this does the trick. It’s very light at a few ounces, has a decent size blade 3″, came razor sharp, comfortable handle, and has some clever cam and lock designs that keep the knife from opening or closing when you dont want it to.

You can open it fast with one hand by pulling the top lever backward rapidly with a strong flick of your forefinger. It is not a spring assist knife but uses a cleverly placed indent and lever actuator angle. The lever can only be activated with strong pressure from a deliberately narrow angle of backward pressure to overcome the indent resistance and open the knife. It takes a bit of practice. But the advantage is You cant open with any downward or random pressure. so that greatly reduces accidental opening that plagues spring assist knives. I tried for a long time rummaging it in my pocket and poking it and squeezing it and such and that blade would not budge. Also the pocket clip is arranged knife tip down for additional safeguard.

Closing it is also a bit of practice due to the Lawks system, but once this knife is open, you do NOT have to worry about accidental closure. To close, simultaneously pull back the lawks lever with your finger and push in the liner lock with your thumb. Lawks lever swings a piece of steel between the liner lock and the handle and thus the liner lock cannot disengage from the blade.

For $20 shipped it was a great deal and definitely way better than those dangerous chinese knockoffs. And for 20 bucks I dont care if I break it or abuse it either.

    Customer Reviews:

Brilliant for hanging vines and shrubs
I am a volunteer with the National Park Service and spend a great deal of time cutting invasive exotic vines and other noxious plants to try to save mature woodlands.

I used a new tool today to beat down some Chinese Porcelain Berry vines and it worked extremely well. To date, my tools of choice have been a 22″ machete - for English Ivy, Winter Creeper, Multiflora Rose and tall Japanese Knotweed, and a 12-inch bow saw for anything over 1.5 inches in diameter. I also use a weed cutter (grass whip) for secondary knotweed cutting, etc.

I have found that the difficulty with Porcelain Berry is that it hangs away from native plants, is swingy and poorly supported. It’s often so dense that one can’t get close enough with hand pruners or loppers to make much progress. And the machete requires tedious, exhausting and repeated hacking. Today I used my brand new Fiskars brush axe on it, expensive at $39 through Amazon, but worth every darned penny.

It’s a bit shorter than a machete, very light and well balanced. The handle is high impact plastic and absorbs shock well, the blade is short enough to be relatively safe, and the blade is strong, anti-corrosion coated and takes a good edge. But most of all, the downward pointing hook serves (similar to a grass hook, brush hook, bill hook or ditch bank - which are much heavier and unwieldy) to keep hanging vines and springy arms of shrubs from sliding off the cutting edge. The rounded point of the hook also impacts the ground before the blade, which helps to preserve the edge of the blade.

This tool cuts through vines up to 1 inch like a hot knife through butter! I reckon it is twice as effective as the machete for swinging growth and 4 times as fast as a lopper - plus being much lighter than a lopper. It works equally well on living and dead brush. If you are familiar with the difference between bypass and anvil blades (one for green wood the other for dead wood) on pruners and loppers, you know that you really need two tools if you go that route. Combined with welders gloves, the kind with the extra long gauntlets, I have no reluctance anymore toward bashing into vines that stretch over my head or under shrubs.

My only complaint, and it is minor, is that the handle is not rubberized and less smooth.

All in all, this tool is a joy to use.

Good tool, but it IS breakable!
This was a great tool…until it broke and flew hundreds of feet into the woods. I used it to cut Asiatic Bittersweet and Porcelain Berry vines. It was great! It really did a nice job of cutting those vines. Good balance, sharp blade, quality shape to cut and pull vines away.

One day, I was cutting vines and the blade broke right off the handle. It was bizarre because there were no prior signs of damage. There were no cracks and the blade did not feel loose. So for the love of Crumb Cake, be careful with this tool if you purchase one.

I am happy to report that after I sent an email (including pictures of the broken tool) to Fiskars’ consumer affairs department, they said they would forward the pictures to their quality control department. They were very helpful and quick to respond.

Sufficient Chinese tool with a price I can live with
This product is like most other Fiskars products, it’s not the best, but often sufficient. It is a cheap knockoff of an American made Woodmans Pal, also sold by Amazon, a tool that has been “Made in America” since before WWII. Woodman has a better design of the hook, better steel, and it can also be used as a hammer, hell it might even be able to be used in a Bruce Willis action film to save the world, however, along with those great american features you get a whoping high price. I mean, I could buy three of Fiskars Brush Axe for it’s price and get sufficient quality and a snazzier look. So for me (a customer) the choice comes down to this: The Best Quality & American Pride vs. Childs tuition, Food, Pay the Bills & clear the jungle. Americans better start wising up, get off arrogance & entitlement and start being competitive in the world. Fiskar is a Finnish Company, it’s a global market, and they don’t have to make anything in America or Finland and Woodmans Pal of America needs to stop being so stuck on being the best and start focusing on their market, customer needs and the competition (yes, they do exist) and make the most sufficient/practical item, after all thats how Germany lost the war and it’s how America is going to lose it’s industrial edge. American companies seem to have a severe case of narcissisum and feeding their own ego, it’s almost as if they do no market targeting and just make tools for their wealthy friends. News flash for Woodmans Pal, most people who would use a tool like this are rural in origin and not wealthy enough to justify $95 dollars for a weed whacker.

    Features

    • Patented LightWedge puts all the light only on the page being read, with no light escaping to bother sleepers or neighbors close by
    • A page-sized acrylic lens lays flat on the page while two bright LEDs shine discreetly where it’s needed
    • The original light wedge is a larger size, perfect for hardcover and larger “trade” paperback books
    • Measures 6-3/4 by 9-1/4 inches and weighs only 8-1/2 ounces with batteries; smaller sizes sold separately
    • 4 AAA batteries are required to power the light for up to 40 hours; batteries are not included

BEST for reading at night, no question about it!
THis lightwedge is fantastic. It provides a great source of light that is focused on your book, not on the person next to you. The light comes from the black handle, but because of the “wedge” shape of the glass, it is focused down the glass and onto your book. You can even take that focused beam and use it as an impromtu flashlight.

This thing uses hardly any batteries at all, unlike the other popular reading lights. I very rarely have to change the batteries and I use this all the time, for hours every night! I’ve even fallen asleep with it on overnight, with no noticable decrease in battery life. Because the battery life is so good, I’ve even let my son read in bed for awhile and then just set it down and use it as a nightlight for the rest of the night.

It is true that if you’re like I am (rough with it) it will get scratches on the lens. Not a big deal though, when it’s on the book, you won’t notice the scraches. Much like small scratches on eyeglasses.

I like the larger size because you can use that with large books or with paperbacks with equal ease. The paperback one doesn’t work as well with the hardcover books, but it’s okay.

The lightwedge also doubles as a bookmark when not in use!

You won’t be disappointed if you buy this. I wasn’t. I’m actually buying two more for friends as Christmas gifts!

Be mindful what color you buy
I use the LightWedge to read in bed and bought it so the light wouldn’t disturb my husband. We both think it works great; however, be mindful of the translucent versus solid colored casing in terms of light escape.

The translucent lets the light escape through its clear casing and scatter throughout the room. So, if disturbing others around you is an issue then buy a solid colored casing.

Overall, the LightWedge is a must buy for anyone who likes to read before going to bed and while traveling. I have 2 more suggestions: 1) buy the case covering to protect it when not in use 2) buy a LightWedge with different light settings, if possible: a high and a low. For example, when I wake in the middle of the night and can’t fall asleep, I get out my book to read. The problem is that my current LightWedge has only one light setting. This can be so bright, it almost hurts to read and how I mumble and curse myself for not being a more mindful consumer.

    Disappointed
I bought this light based on all the great reviews. I love reading in bed and my husband can’t stand the light on when he is trying to sleep. So, I thought I had found a good option for both of us. I find the design of this light awkward while reading–it’s hard to move between pages and the light output is really faint. I am under 40 and have good vision–so think it is the light and not my eyes. I’m still looking for a better solution.

    Customer Reviews:

An Edge for the Older Gardener
My wife has a green fist! Yes, I know the cliche is: “my wife has a green thumb.” Every living plant, vine, bush or tree she touches in her garden or around the house grows, thrives, and reproduces. Indeed, even slips from someone else’s garden bursts into life when she transplants it.

Our little garden out back is a riot of color and variety and only a year ago it was a dry plot of deep, impenatrable lifeless clay. Today people suck in their breath when they walk out the patio door into her “Eden” (my name for the space).

But my wife is about to turn 70. She is plagued with migraine headaches, vertigos and is having a long convelescence from a fall that broke many things. She is slower, more deliberate in pace. Stooping is a hazard and so is running back and forth for tooks.

But out she goes each day to trim, water, admire and talk to her growing things. She needs an assistant or attendent who makes her chores less painful. The bucket caddy and a little army surplus stool fit the bill.

She sits on the little canvas stool and places the caddy next to her with all her favorite tools, plant foods and mysterious sprays. She waters from that position.

There is less pain in her day, less worry and so the lucious colored and growing things thrive and spread and even march up the outside walls of our house. For 50 years she nourished and nurtured the lives of young children in the class room, now she continues in her garden. People like my wife should have all the convenient and proper tools they need for their work for they are part of ongoing creation which benefits us all.

Her husband? Even a silk plant dies in his office! Thanks for creating a thoughtful helpmate with this product for my wife.

    Very Very Handy.
    Pros:
This is a terrific product. I use it mainly for weeding and pruning; keeping my cellphone, a bottle of water, my weeder and pruner in the caddy while throwing the weeds into the center of the bucket for later disposal. I don’t do a lot of gardening, all my plants are planted and set and I spend maybe a couple hours a week doing general maintenance. This is perfect for that. For heavy tools, you’ll want to get a caddy designed for that purpose, such as the Bucket Boss. This Garden Caddy is very very clever and handy, and designed specifically for gardening purposes. I love it.

    Some minor, minor concerns:
    1. The strap is velcro. The product description mentions a “lock-and-loop fastener” but perhaps that was an earlier version? Unless “lock-and-loop” is code for velcro. This is a concern for me because velcro doesn’t work too well when muddy, or old, and if I have heavy items I’m worried it might not hold. However, I’ve given the caddy a few good tugs and even left it hanging overnight with some very heavy items attached and it seems to hold very well. So until I see otherwise, the velcro is probably fine, especially since I won’t be buckling and unbuckling it often.
    2. None of the compartments are elastic. There are enough compartments of different sizes that this isn’t a problem for me, but I would’ve liked to see one or two that stretch so my kneepads aren’t such a tight-fit. Still, it’s not like I actually need an elastic compartment, so maybe I’m being picky.

    Some notes:
This only fits a 5-gallon bucket. The bucket is not included. A bucket will cost you $3 - $6 at your local hardware store, though if you have one lying around from a paint job, or even your CostCo laundry detergent, it’ll fit.

Overall, this is an extremely useful tool, perfect for light-gardening. The price is low (on occasion you’ll see it as low as 5 bucks at local stores, but I wouldn’t hassle over the 2.50 here as you’ll want to get this asap, it’s that handy). 5 Stars for a well-thought-out product!

A Convienent Way to Carry your Gardening Tools, etc.
I like Bucket Boss - Fiskars products. This item is well thought out and well made. There are pockets sized for all your hand tools including bulb planter, a convienent “wallet” for seed pockets, a secure cell phone pouch, and even room for a squeeze drink bottle. I would also recommend getting one of Bucket Boss’ Bucket Grip.

    Amazon.com Product Description
The Fiskars garden bucket caddy features clever, durable design to make gardening easier. In addition to its deep, large pockets for hand tool and glove storage, the caddy has a space for seed storage to keep seeds dry and protected, as well as a beverage holder and even a cell-phone pocket. The durable cloth caddy fits snugly around a 5-gallon bucket. Tools and bucket are not included.

Lead check test swabs detect lead on any surface within 1 minute. To use the test swab just squeeze the test swab firmly at the 2 points indicated, shake and then continue to squeeze until yellow liquid appears on the brush end. Rub the surface to be tested with the wet swab. The lead check swab will turn pink if leachable lead is present. Lead check swabs can be used to check for lead in paint, ceramics, dinnerware, crystal, solder, toys, dust, soil, etc. Lead check swabs are packed 2 per blister card.

    • It’s a simple, fast and and economical way to check for lead paint in homes
    • LeadCheck instantly detects lead on any surface and can be helpful in preventing toxic lead accumulations and lead poisoning
    • Not used for lead testing in water
    • Simple swap tests for lead on any household surface
    • 2 swabs for up to 4 tests

    There IS a better option.
As a previous review mentioned, the color change is ambiguous. Is it red or orange or what? If it changes color at all, does that mean lead is present? The instructions aren’t clear on that point. What the packaging doesn’t tell you is that if what you want to test is painted red, this testing kit cannot be used since a positive result is shown by the surface turning “red” or “pink.” Now I have to find a different tester not only to test red paint but also to confirm the orange result of this testing kit. Save your money and just buy another brand from the start.

*I tried another brand, the First Alert Lead Test Kit, and it does have an option for testing dark-colored items, with a quantitative result chart that shows approximately how much lead is present in your sample, as opposed to the quick swab yes/no (more like “huh?”) result this lesser Homax test. Get The First Alert Lead Test instead.

**FINAL EDIT: Both of the aforementioned lead test kits gave false positive results. Unfortunately, I found out only after I’d already hired a lead abatement firm, whose professional detection equipment confirmed there was no lead where these little test kits had shown positive results. Save your money for the pros and get an accurate result before you start worrying like I did for no reason.

    Packaging flaw
I bought 5 packs. The outside of the box says up to 4 tests. However, be warned that the only way you can use ONE swab again, is if you get a negative reading. Once you activate a swab, you get two minutes to use it. I read on Consumer Reports that they had some swabs change colors after 2 hours. So…2 mins-2 hours? I opted to not reuse a swab. Secondly, I had 10 possible swabs. 4 swabs did not works. The liquid was not in there, or it was already crushed. Then I had 1 swab break thru the outer shell and prick my finger with the glass. Other than that, I suppose they worked. I will know for sure in a few weeks when I get my house tested professionally, and update my review.

These worked great. Instructions could be better
I wanted to test the paint in our room before i started sanding. At first everything I tested went was from a yellow to a sort of an yellow orange color, which the instructions did not explain. After spending sometime on there website I found orange signifies barium which is a lead substitute. Also I tested some paint in another area and got purple, which signifies there is tin in the paint. Eventually I came a cross a painted area inside our air ducts behind the vent. (Why the inside of our vent was painted i have no idea) I tested this and it turned a reddish pink. There is a detailed color chart on there website which i compared it to and it was around 8% lead. Yikes. guess I will be removing my ductwork.

After doing a few of these tests I learned to lightly rub the tip of the tester into the paint for 30 seconds, don’t mash it in too hard or you wont get good results.

All in all this worked great. They really should put the information on there website in the instructions though.

    Customer Reviews:

    Easy and Beautiful
I bought this to cover glass inset into my front door for privacy. I had originally bought a Gila product in the Depot, but opened that only to find that you had to purchase their own solution in order to install, plus it looked too complicated. Returned. After reading reviews, I bought this Artscapes product through Amazon and am extremely happy with the result. It was very easy to install using household water and soap, and they even provided the squeegie. Design is beautiful. Only 4 stars due to price, which seems a bit high. The quality of the product is top notch though. Fast free delivery from Amazon too.

Adds instant class to any room!
This film is absolutely beautiful–looks just as good as (or better than) the pictures! The film has a high-quality feel about it as well (thicker than I expected it to be!).

I would’ve given it 5 stars, except that I followed the directions to the letter and still ended up with a few small bubbles between the film and window (these bubbles were not visible during or directly after installation–showed up 2 days afterward). I have a white sheer curtain over the window anyway which makes these imperfections near-invisible, so it didn’t really hurt anything (the beautiful scroll pattern still shows through =)).

If you are applying the film as the sole window covering, be sure to squeegee it VERY well and you should be OK. I would buy this film again in a minute!

Easy to install, serves its purpose
Easy to install but you do need to clean the window very very well first–any little spots or specks become bumps. I am using it in a bathroom where I wanted privacy but did not want to install blinds or curtains.
