This was a gift for my two year faded. When I first played it I was not definite my son would like it…the characters were talking musical instruments. Beep the Bus and Jasper the Clown looked like they would dread my child! Outrageous! He LOVES this DVD….the characters, the songs, EVERYTHING! It is a knowing, droll, wonderfully computer amimated DVD that is fun to inspect over and over again. My son has actually picked up fresh words honest from watching and he loves ALL the songs!

We stumbled on this video when my 29 month worn picked it up at the video store because he was drawn to the “Humpty Dumpty” on the wait on. (He loves the nursery rhyme and repeats it over and over) . He really enjoys the video and got so upset when we had to return it. Yes, the narration is in a minute British accent but not so distinguished that it distracts. Besides, I want my child to understand there is more in the world than his beget home town. The nursery rhymes are not verbatim to what you may have heard growing up, but again I reflect this is fraction of the charm. My sons watches the Humpty Dumpty tale over and over and marches around the living room when “all the kings men” begin marching around trying to back Humpty.

Next: I have to emphatically disagree with reviewer Bill Mydo below. -You will excuse me if I employ some puny time defending this film against his critique; Mulan happens to be my celebrated Disney fascinating movie, second only perhaps to Beauty and the Beast. Perhaps my being Chinese-American may have something to do with it, as does the fact that I strongly identify with the character’s self-doubts. Composed, I am fairly particular as to what I reflect “valid art”; and it boggles and confounds me that anyone would fail to explore the dissimilarity between this movie and, for example, Hunchback or Hercules.

Yes, Disney’s Mulan is very great a western/ American movie, made for western and American- not Asian- audiences. No, they “didn’t earn it apt”; or, not exactly. But I never expected them to, and I give them a marvelous deal of credit for trying. They came quite a bit closer that I ever concept that they would. Nor do I acquire this movie overly feminist (no more than Snow White or Cinderella are “chauvinist”) . Mulan may be a strong female character, but she is not Aladdin’s Princess Jasmine. Mulan is not defined by rebellion, nor by what she rejects. Instead she upholds her sense of honor as she struggles to gain out who she is and where she fits in. Moreover, in a genre known for its blatant ad nauseum boy-meets-girl adore themes, I truly appreciated the downplayed understatedness of the “interest” between Mulan and Captain Shang.

As to the “commercial” aspect of the film; yes, it had its tie-ins and its merchandising. What Disney movie doesn’t? But the exact snarl is the worth of the film itself, and on this I recall exception to the review below. I bear there is more in it than Mr. Mydo gives credit for.

The film does have its awkward moments. The scene with the match-maker and Mulan’s first entrance into the army camp are both extremely painful to watch- I do not luxuriate in watching anyone be utterly humiliated- not even a cartoon character (and I do not acquire that someone as quick-witted as Mulan would fumble so badly over simply coming up with a modern name) . I also acquire it somewhat irksome that one minor character, Mushu the dragon, continually steals attention away from the movie’s friendly focus. And there are a number of jokes and visual gags that closely border on PG. I found this in somewhat abominable taste in a kid’s movie.

But these faults are counterbalanced, and more than compensated for, by the scenes that really work. The opening “brush painting” of the Spacious Wall; Mulan’s song (Reflections) and the ensuing scene of loving encouragement from her father; the scene where she decides to leave home; her heart-to-heart talk with Mushu at the abandoned camp in the mountains; the Imperial Palace where she is honored by the Emperor before all China… the sheer artistry of these scenes is breathtaking.

When the Special Edition DVD is released, I intend to be first in line!

I do not occupy that I have EVER watched an sharp film that taught more of the values that I would want future generations to learn from than MULAN. I have watched this movie at LEAST 25 times and simply assign - it is PROFOUND.

The movie opens with Mulan getting ready to go to the “Matchmaker.” Although, she is a attractive girl, she lacks the grace to execute a qualified impression. Devistated, she returns home. Her father tells her that “like the cherry blossoms, her season has not near.”

When China is invaded by the Huns, there is one line in the movie that is uttered by the emperor and it is SO insightful. The general in charge of the armies confidently announces that his men can handle this invasion. However, the emperor issues a proclamation calling all available men because, “sometimes a single grain of rice may be the deciding balance in tipping the scales.” Or - “one man may accomplish a dissimilarity between conquest and defeat.”

In this case, it turns out to be a woman! I Like how Mulan interacts horribly with the men at first and how she is told to leave. Mulan has to exhibit herself and she doesn’t give up.

Even after she is a hero, Mulan is disgraced when it is discovered that she is a woman. She is shunned and yet when she must reach to the rescue of China again, her comrades are true to her and listen to her ideas.

Throughout the movie there are the different interactions of those who find women for who they are and those who are stuck within stereotypes.

Mulan is a cute and VERY droll movie with adorable songs. What makes it a Titanic movie however, is the very much message that we should think one another on our merits and character - whether we be men or women.

‘King of the Beats’ is halfway in between being a documentary and a movie. It contains footage of Kerouac and interviews with Ginsberg, Burroughs, Ferlinghetti, Huncke, etc. But the majority of the footage is of actors portraying the events of kerouac’s life, with a voiceover guiding the legend. It’s incredibly wearisome and pointless, and the draw the legend is presented is dreadful, also. Several primary elements of Kerouac’s life are merely skimmed over. The whole thing has the feel of a cheap 1980’s ‘made for tv’ movie-documentary. On the obvious side, many of the interviews are quite tantalizing, but sadly we only rep fragments. The interview with Huncke is quite comic. The footage of Jack on the Steve Allen point to and 10 years later on Firing Line is exciting.

If you want to learn about Kerouac or you are an admirer who wants to learn more and to study footage of him, select “What happened to Kerouac” instead, a mid 70’s documentary that was made. It’s available on DVD and is far wonderful to this, including several attractive interviews not only with the people mentioned above, but others such as Gary Snyder. It also contains the two TV appearances mentioned above.

Yeah, this one is neither fish nor fowl. It includes some well-behaved footage and interviews with members of the beat generation, but its attempt to dramatize Kerouac’s life are unfulfilling. The acting is sixth rate, and the actors themselves don’t glance considerable at all like Jack or Neal Cassady. I consider it was a huge thought to have an actor read passages from Kerouac’s work, but even this manages to grate as the sentences are read melodramatically and nasty by too noteworthy emotion. Kerouac didn’t sound like that, nor, from what I have read, did he reflect like that. This documentary was quite a disappointment and two other films are available on the tragic man which are far pleasant in quality.

Throughout it all, the aim has been to convey it straight and find it suitable. They have done so in distinguished style. The truth HAS enough drama, and the various episodes sing it. We secure to know these men and care about them. We marvel at their endurance and the method they go about getting the job done, professionally, and with matter-of-fact, everyday courage. It is a apt tribute to the Citizen Soldiers who won the war.

With 10 episodes and lots of extra goodies, presented within an exceptional package, there is unbiased too remarkable to review here. Some memorable moments: the harrowing jump into the explosive, tracer-lit night skies of Normandy; the assault on the 88’s; Winter’s killing the young German; the episode dedictated to the Medic; the ghastly artillery barrage on the men in the snowy forest of Bastogne; the shock of the farmer’s wife on seeing the closeup hand-to-hand killing of the German by “Bull”; and finally, the incredibly gripping scenes of the liberation of the Concentration Camp, and the final days of Easy at the War’s waste.

These last episodes are all the more remarkable because we have followed Easy Co. and these men and have seen the death so random and arbitrary around and among them that a dull emotional tension has been built that we now realize with the intensity of anger/pity/horror at the Camps and the bittersweet joy and subsequent farewell of VE day.

I could cite gigantic moments by each individual actor, and nicely played and effectively understated but powerfully emotional scenes but suffice it to say this is an ensemble allotment with splendid performances throughout. The calm power of the different episodes underscores how wonderfully written the entire section is, and with corresponding profitable direction and production values.

A one-of-a-kind production, having the time to enlighten the account with detail and care, and with all eager doing honor to the men who lived it. And finally, there are those men, bringing it all attend to the reality of dependable lives lived. Exceptional stuff.

Band of Brothers is an scare bright and visually splendid tribute, not only to Easy Company, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division, but to the “Greatest Generation.” But for their sacrifices, would we piece the freedoms we so care for and covet to our vests today! Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg deserve all of the awards and accolades they received for bringing this chronicle to HBO and now this improbable DVD box place!

Part 1 - Currahee - Currahee is a amazing beginning to this unprecedented HBO miniseries. Outside of the movie “Saving Private Ryan” there has never before been such a realistic series such as this one. Currahee poignantly highlights the training that was principal for the newly designed Airborne Infantry. While some may judge that Captain Sobel was a complete idiot, in all truth, his combat skills were obviously lacking however, as a trainer, he effect Easy Company in a very superb site as a well trained unit.

Part 2 - Day of Days - D-Day has arrived and Easy Company makes the jump that they’ve been preparing two years for. As history unfolds, the German flak has caused nearly every plane to miss their designated tumble zone. 1LT Winters finds he’s in Normandy, lost his weapon and his company. He finally arrives at the assembly status and is given the mission to rob out a German artillery dwelling. Day of Days is an favorable episode that doesn’t miss out on 1LT Winters depth of emotions as he loses his first soldier in combat.

Part 3 - Carentan - Easy Company is ordered in to choose the French village of Carentan. While encountering only minor resistance, they remove light casualties. After successfully taking the town, they’re ordered to depart on to the next unbiased. En route, they encounter the German force sent to retake Carentan. They stalemate for the evening, expecting to forge a fat assault in the morning. The Germans have other plans though and counter attack in the morning with a combined force of mechanized infantry and armor. Fortunately for Easy Company, they are finally rescued by the 2nd Armored Division. Shortly after this action they are lucky enough to find some R&R relieve in England. The exhibit ends with orders aid to the front and a very poignant final scene to yet another amazing episode.

Part 4 - Replacements - Replacements jumps forward to September and Easy Company is on R&R in England. They’re called into Operation Market Garden. Easy Company is given the mission to bewitch Eindhoven, Holland. They were told they would be running into light resistance. Operation Market Garden turns into a tremendous failure and the Allied Forces are turned aid with heavy casualties. Sgt “Bull” Randleman is quite sorrowful enough to fetch stuck slow enemy lines. “Replacements” is another expedient episode.

Part 5 - Crossroads - Crossroads is one of the best shows of the whole miniseries. Captain Winters, due to the costs of war, garners advancement from Easy Company Commander to Battalion Executive Officer. The episode is shown, through the eyes of Captain Winters as he is preparing a record on the actions of October 5th when he led his company in the attack of a German SS area. The more telling share is later in the episode when he gets an R&R in Paris and the horrors of war earn up to him.

Part 6 - Bastogne - To quote Captain Winters, “we’re paratroopers; we’re supposed to be surrounded.” Bastogne tells the account, from Easy Companies point of idea, about the 101st Airborne Infantry being surrounded by German forces and holding the line during the Battle of the Bulge. This is also the combat action where the Commanding General of the 101st Airborne replied to the German Commanders seek information from for their surrender, “nuts.”

Part 7 - The Breaking Point - January 1945 and Easy Company is on the verge of attacking the Germans in Foy, Belgium. Due to heavy resistance, Easy Company endures nearly a month of being barraged by German artillery on the front line. This episode is very telling as far as the how demoralizing the artillery can be.

Part 8 - The Last Patrol - Easy Company is on the front line in the Alsacian town of Haguenau. They now have the sense that the war is coming to a end, as they are unbiased across the river from Germany. The brigade commander orders a patrol across the border to rep German prisoners. This episode again brings to the forefront the emotions of the soldiers as they again are counted on to effect their mission!

Part 9 - Why We Fight - This episode is clearly the most poignant of the series as Easy Company finds and liberates a concentration camp. Although there had been rumors of these concentration camps, no once could truly comprehend what they were about until they were faced with them! This episode alone should’ve garnered several awards.

Part 10 - Points - Easy Company takes Eagles Nest, Hitler’s mountaintop fortress. The company settles in as an occupation force, yet expecting to be redeployed to the Japanese warfront. A very emotional what happened to several of the units members after the war. Overall, this episode is a wonderful conclusion to the “Band of Brother.”

Featuring a cast beefy of past and future stars, and a soul-filled soundtrack, ‘Doctor Detroit’ was a showcase for many talents. Three of the four women playing the ‘girls’ include a pre-”Nanny” Fran Drescher, Donna Dixon (she later married Dan Aykroyd), and Lynn Whitfield (”Eve’s Bayou”) . The film also includes a special appearance by soul record James Brown as the main attraction at the Players Ball.

Full of laughable scenes including Aykroyd impersonating a Southern lawyer and his battle with Mom at the junkyard, Doctor Detroit gave Dan Aykroyd a vehicle to extend his comedic skills to the fullest extent. The film’s most classic scene is the excellently choreographed opening at the Players Ball where everyone is grooving to the rhythms of James Brown. Pimps, prostitutes, and crime lords all win enthusiastic in what has to be an ode to the blaxploitation films of the past.

If you are looking for a clever, comic, and hip film, your search has ended. “Doctor Detroit” tranquil remains as one of the 1980’s most memorable comedies.

This is a very comic movie. Dan Ankroyd is Hilarious. I wish that they would bring it out on DVD. Outmoded SCHOOL comedy at its best.

Very nice lens at a great price
I bought the Tamron to go with my Sony a200 dslr. The lens is really nice quality, and it works perfectly with the camera. Autofocus is quick and accurate. It is certainly not a pro quality lens, but for the price it is wonderful. I recommend this for anyone who wants a telephoto zoom to add to their dlsr. I tried out the Sony 70-300mm lens in a local store, but I was not impressed. In particular the usability of manual focus on the Sony lens was quite poor. This one is fantastic in that regard. You may not use manual focus that often, but it’s nice to have a lens that can handle the job when you need it.

Great lens
I recently took this lens to Hawaii with me. I got some great shots of Diamond Head and Hanauma Bay. The shots of Diamond Head are so close it looks like I visted it.
I also put a UV filter on it and the colors are VIBRANT! I’ve received many compliments.
If you’re looking for a larger lens, this is the one to buy.

A long lens
First off this is in no way a compact lens, its big and its heavy, but it does produce very sharp and detailed images under the right conditions.

I am using this with my Sony A200 and it performs well on a tripod, but for handheld success it better be a very bright sunny day or a very high ISO setting because this lens is very difficult to control at extreme telephoto lengths. My Sony begins flashing the warning sign in the viewfinder at 200mm, but to the cameras credit the steady shot performs well. That being said I would suggest that this lens be used with a tripod.

Bottom line, for the cost this is a very nice lens. It is louder than the Sony or Minolta’s, and it does hunt a bit at extreme telephoto (partially I beleive due to camera shake induced by it’s weight) but all things considered the build quality seems, to me at least, to exceed the Sony kit lens.

There are some key elements to identifying a poorly made film be it television or enormous screen: Over expend of very terminate up shots, jerky camera activity, comical post production effects, third rate actors, amature CGI, childish script, definite amature production quality (lighting, unfounded rain machines, etc), terrible acting, action sequences that bore the viewer, incorherent legend lines, rediculous computer input sceens with people typing 300 words per exiguous while talking. There are more I am distinct. Most movies have some of these elements but in general mammoth cloak movies gain fewer then itsy-bitsy camouflage do honest as a function of budget differences. I tend to give puny cloak productions a puny leisurely due to these budget challenges.

That said, The Storm is a rare production. It embraces, with reckless abandon, all of the elements of a contaminated movie. Bordering on parody, The Storm is almost unwatchable. Treat Williams, the unpleasant man’s Harrison Ford, leads a pedestrian cast of hacks sleep walking through this long, very long, two hour (with ads) movie. Needless to say you sould skip this one. If you do rent or, dare I say, prefer this POS, I can promise you will want to hold the remote handy for fleet forwarding whole segments.

I watched this when it was on NBC and it was aesthetic awful. With the exception of Treat Williams and David James Elliott, I was wondering who those others were advertised as stars. Being I’m not a teenager is probably why I didn’t know them. The split cover scenes are over done. There are not unbiased 2 scenes at one time but 3 or 4. Add to that the advertisements for NBC’s drop shows along the bottom and it was a confusing mess to gaze. I know those ads will not be on the DVD. Van Der Beek is stone faced thoughout the movie and in my personal view a bad actor. I am not obvious who Teri Polo was but a friend told me they belief she was the news woman killed in the first hour in a cheap rip off of the shower scene in Psycho. Treat Williams is noble in the movie but he does ham it up at times. If you like this type of movie you might like this one. I must confess that I only watched it as I am a JAG fan and watched to notice David James Elliott who had a cramped role as the Army General. NBC heavily advertised that he was in the movie so it was disappointing to spy his role so slight. If you are a fan of his fair glance the trailer and you will eye about half of his scenes. The state has been done before in other movies made for TV. This one is overall not very unique.

You ask why I gave this movie 5 stars?
I gave this film 5 stars because it is one of those rare movies that made me laugh out loud! This is a very dark comedy about 2 idiots who find their boss dead and convince hundreds of gullible people that he is actually alive. They walk him around a resort, go boating with his remains, have parties. They even convince the hitman who killed Bernie that he’s still alive! So, you guessed it, the hitman tries and tries again to “kill” Bernie. The physical humor is absolutely the best. It’s a unique concept. I guarantee that you will laugh until you hurt. It’s totally 80’s with a great theme song sung by Jermaine Stewart. Highly recommended.

Dark Comedy, Light Fun
The cast is perfect and the sets, music, and all that went into this movie seem to meld to make a very funny movie. Andrew McCarthy as Larry Wilson and Jonathan Silverman as Richard Parker are a good match for co-workers at an insurance company. Larry the brown nosing party man and Richard the hard working nerd. When Richard discovers a two million dollar mistake in claims their boss Bernie invites them over for the weekend to discuss it. What happens after that is sick, demented, and funny. Any fan of “8 Heads in a Duffel Bag” and “The Whole Nine Yards” should enjoy it. This is one of those rare movies were seeing a dead person being lugged around, beat up, dropped, bareface ski, washed around in the tide, shot, strangled, and more is just plain outrageously funny.

This is a great film to make you laugh. Just old fashioned humor, I laughed from start to finish. The corps [bernie] is great and the two guys on holiday for the weekend have unfortunatley fallen into a difficult situation and try hard to get out of it, with many histerical idea’s. Certainly a film to cheer you up on a cold dark evening, my sides ached after watching it.

Weekend at Bernie’s starts when two lowly clerks at an insurance agency uncover a $2 million fraud and report it to their boss, Bernie (Terry Kiser). Unfortunately for them, Bernie is the one behind the fraud, and he invites them to his island beach house for the weekend, where he intends to have them killed by his mob contacts. Unfortunately for Bernie, the mob decides to rub him out instead–and thus begin the necrotic hijinks. The clerks, Richard (Jonathan Silverman) and Larry (Andrew McCarthy), arrive and discover Bernie’s body. At first they panic and start to call the police, but when a party of islanders sweeps in, Richard and Larry also discover that the local residents are so self-absorbed they don’t notice that Bernie is dead. So if our heroes can just convince everyone that Bernie is still alive for they weekend, they can have a splendid time. Unfortunately, they also convince the mob hitman, who keeps trying to take Bernie out. Weekend at Bernie’s was made at the height of 1980s fashion and features many amusing outfits and hairstyles–often the styles are funnier than the dialogue, and the characters are tissue-paper thin. A classic B-movie starring Ronald Reagan as well as Bonzo
Political opponents of Ronald Reagan always liked to refer to “Bedtime for Bonzo” as some sort of joke film, but it really is a solid B-movie tha offers a solid performance by the future president. Reagan plays Peter Boyd, a professor of psychology whose father was a thief. To impress Dean Tillinghast (Herbert Heyes), not to mention the dean’s lovely daughter, Valerie (Lucille Barkley), Peter sets out to prove that environment is a more important factor than heredity. Towards this end he borrows Bonzo from a zoology professor (Walter Slezak) and takes the chimp home to raise him like a human. Peter even hires a nurse named Jane (Diana Lynn) to become Bonzo’s “mother,” and everything proceeds well for a while.

Of course the dean’s daughter gets jealous and Bonzo senses things are not going well for his happy home. Fascinated with pretty jewelry, Bonzo steals a valuable necklace from a store. Peter is accused of having trained the chimp to steal (heredity wills out as it were) and is jailed. Fortunately Jane and Bonzo are pretty much smarter than the rest of this crew put together and we have a happy ending.

Reagan’s performance in this movie is solid, with just the right touch of conviction and exasperation as he deals with the upstaging chimp in scene after scene. Think about how hard it is to act with a chimp: look what Cheetah did to Johnny Weismueller. Walter Slezak as Professor Neumann is a great second banana in this film, but Reagan makes “Bedtime for Bonzo” work. He makes this whole crazy story believable and that is what you need in this type of film.

Just think of all the people over the years who have watched this film to ridicule Reagan and who had to end up admitting this is an entertaining little film that deserves to be remembered as more than a curious footnote in Reagan’s acting career. “Bedtime for Bonzo” is directed by Frederick De Cordova, who would eventually be better known for directing television shows like “The Burns and Allen Show, ” “The Jack Benny Show” and “December Bride” as Freddy De Cordova. Most people today would remember him as the executive producer of the “Tonight” show with Johnny Carson.

“Bedtime for Bonzo” is more than a B-movie built on schemes and pratfalls.

In a movie masked as a question of environment versus genetics, we are treated to a love story as gentle as a Disney flick, as innocent as “Leave It to Beaver” and as silly as a Martin and Lewis comedy.

The havoc is huge that Bonzo causes as he tramps across the screen, as Peter, a psychology professor (famously played by Ronald Reagan) follows in pursuit. The star chimpanzee leads Peter into chaos with Valerie. Peter thinks he intends to marry Valerie, and uses Bonzo to help prove his valor to her father.

In the process of convoluting a scheme to win the approval of Valerie’s father, Peter hires a nanny to help with good Bonzo’s parenting. Jane, the nanny, is willing but nave, and her childlike manner unexpectedly endears Peter who becomes confused about his commitment to Valerie.

Bonzo longs to please his neo-mother Jane, and swipes a hard-to-steal necklace from a jewelry store. This plants Peter in a pound of trouble, and furthers Valerie’s father’s ill-founded belief that his daughter’s boyfriend is a ne’er-do-well professorial thug.

Will Peter’s honesty and goodness shine through? Can he convince a non-human primate to make the right decision and return the stolen necklace? Will Valerie’s father realize the error of his ideas? What about Peter and his confused heart?

The ending comes about predictably, but satisfyingly.

I fully recommend “Bedtime for Bonzo.”
