Honest about every character appears here, be they villain or hero and plays a section. The Unlit Axis trio have a brief involvement but that’s probably for the best. They’ve become loveable over the course of the indicate so to gape them eager with the serious attacks going on here wouldn’t feel honest.

Both Boris Pasternak’s wonderful new and David Lean’s splendid film version are among my favorites of all-time. The narrative is basically about a poet/physician (Omar Sharif) who loves two women–his adoring wife, Tonya (Geraldine Chapin), and his enigmatic mistress, Lara (Julie Christie) –through the events of World War I and the Russian Revolution.

Robert Bolt’s screenplay balances the political upheaval with glowing, heartwrenching romance–one of the few films to succeed at this level. Lean, who seemed to fabricate a specialty of making films about illicit treasure (Brief Encounter, Summertime, etc.), also works a tightrope, giving the film the vital grandeur and sweep required for an yarn while never losing study of the intimacy of the characters. He is aided considerably by a radiant cast: Sharif, despite or perhaps because of his Egyptian background, provides the perfect perspective of an individual observing things around him, each time as if it were new–it’s a fantastic performance; Christie is simply luminescent; Chaplin nicely understated; and there’s terrific assist from Alec Guinness, Rod Steiger, Tom Courtney, etc.

What makes Zhivago a must on DVD is the awe-inspiring cinematography of Freddie Young, who deservedly won the Academy Award. Doctor Zhivago is, like the book it’s based on, a spellbinding film that will reward the viewer with one of their most fantastic cinematic experiences.

This is one of the rare times when I actually liked the movie more than the book. Omar Sharif, Julie Christie and Rod Steiger, especially, are unbiased amazing in David Lean’s adaptation of Pasternak’s sage fancy tale. The script was elegant and lacked nothing; the actors couldn’t have done a better job at delivering their lines. It was extremely well paced and never lagged or felt rushed. Maurice Jarre’s haunting rep is objective radiant and weaves throughout the movie like a tapestry. The cinematography is beyond compare. The views of the Urals, the frozen Siberian tundra and the countryside in springtime (especially the daffodils!) will never be forgotten. In my conception, one of the greatest movies ever, never to be forgotten.

‘Proof’ is a astonishing, consuming movie that keeps you riveted to your seat every moment. It’s not an action film or a serious melodrama or even a rollicking comedy. Crowe is an incredibly diverse actor, ranging from the likable guy-next-door (”Sum of Us”, “Proof”) to imploding/exploding rage (”Lickety-split and the Expressionless”, “LA Confidential”, “The Insider” and “Gladiator”) . If you are looking for the latter, this is not the movie for you. You’ll be bored and wonder if the body from the “rage” flicks were fair creative lighting (no…..he honest pumped up for “Romper Stomper” and never bulked down) . But if you want to search for Crowe smile and giggle uncontrollably, check this out. Overall, it’s a fascinating, silly yet thought-provoking film that makes you consider about what “proof” we all need in our lives.

The thing about a simply made movie with a well-delivered message is that it will outlast any present-day film that reflects the glamour, glitz and special effects that today’s audience seems to crave. And “Proof” will continue to believe its bear against any film to reach. It is simply expansive acting by three talented actors. Weaving commands respect from the audience for blind Martin, rather than pity. His character demonstrates how the a youthful interpretation of an event can shape a person’s entire outlook on life. Picot’s character Celia plays the desperation of a woman seeking intimacy to the hilt. Andy, played by Crowe, is Martin’s light on the path to truth. And for once, Crowe doesn’t “out act” his peers, making this a mammoth ensemble allotment that will always be relevant, no matter what era of movie making we pass through.

Shadow Skill is a big series that I am satisfied I invested in! To explain what I have seen on reviews for the Shadow Skill movie DVD, the T.V. series is available in the United States. I managed to come by 3 of the six volumes in local stores. I am unsure if they are getting harder to gather because of lack of sales, but it was certainly impossible to score the others and thus brought me to Amazon. Was this series worth it? Oh heck yeah!

The narrative centers around a young female fighter having gained the title of champion region among her people. She and her younger brother, Gau, are warriors in constant training and honing of their abilities in the fighting style of Shadow Skill, a deadly martial art that can ruin with one blow. The scrape is Elle has a knack for running up tabs at bars while being hilariously comical at it in gargantuan drunken fashion. Many of the adventures they soon secure enthusiastic in are a result of them looking for jobs to pay their debts and support a spot to live. I haven’t gotten through the whole narrative yet but I can mumble it’s doing like all other Animes in a dumb precise launch to a rapid paced action filled storyline!

The Anime style was a bit offsetting at first. It isn’t the graceful clarity and visuals of Fleshy Metal Alchemist or Ghost in the Shell, but it is very pleasurable nonetheless. The action sequences are well drawn out in which you can clearly perceive each go the fighter throws out. Although one shrimp annoying thing is the cutscenes into Japanese symbols with the English translation. Imagine Goku from DBZ doing a Spirit Bomb attack and it cuts to a gloomy cloak with wording telling you the attack he’s doing. Yeah. Not needed. But it doesn’t display up that often and can easily be tolerated.

The English voices rob some getting frail to at first. All the other characters have voices you would imagine honorable with what you’re seeing. But with Elle and Gau, they seem a bit young in tone compared to what you perceive and would interrogate. But considering Elle and Gau are both in their teens it truly is fitting. That and when they derive excited, their voicing really shines and you can feel their rage. For those interesting about the Japanese voices, they are perfect and I conception to inspect the whol series in Japanese as well.

Shadow Skill is certainly worth a series to invest in whether by making it an addition to your Anime collection or you admire an action/comedy filled series. I certainly have no regrets and give it two thumbs Blueprint up!

In 1998, the television series SHADOW SKILL (produced by Studio Deen) was released in Japan based on the manga by Megumu Okada.

With 26-episodes in all, it’s finally coming to North America through ADV Films in November.

The series focuses on Elle Ragu, the 59th Sevalle a.k.a. Shadow Skill. The Seveall are feared because they are an elite breed of men and women who have mastered the martial arts. Alongside with her is her brother Gau and Faurink Maya who try to support her out of misfortune and to not cause so mighty wound (because she is in so powerful debt and has a tendency to regain drunk a lot) .

Trying to acquire unusual jobs to pay off her debt and manufacture a living, with each day of recede, the heroes meet unique companions and also face deadly opponents in the kingdom of Karuda.

SHADOW SKILL is a fun, adventurous anime which combines addicting battles combined with an appetizing storyline.

I found the characters for the series appetizing and the action is balanced with the comedy and humor.

But the television series is not all about Elle, there appears to be some reason why the mysterious Scarface has taken an interest in Elle’s brother Gau. Why is that?

As for the DVD, SHADOW SKILL shares the same quality as many anime that were shown during the tedious 90’s.

Although, some sequences do explain the usual television style type of video quality, on episodes such as episode Four, “What My Father Left Me”, there is a sequence where the color and animation style changes for some unknown reason.

As for audio, I was surprised that the English dub track was not in 5.1 and that both English and Japanese tracks are in 2.0. Also, there are no special features at all.

Now for those of you who are enthusiastic in the SHADOW SKILL series, I highly recommend watching the television series first and afterwards the OAV series.

The OAV version of SHADOW SKILLwas released by Manga Entertainment several years ago and compiled into a movie.

The OAV series (the movie version released in the US) takes situation after the television series but focuses on a major change in the relationship between Elle and Gau. I’ll leave it at that.

But the English dub was not to my liking on Manga Entertainment’s release but fortunately you had the option to determine the Japanese track and you can’t go sinful with with Megumi Hayashibara (Ranma 1/2, Slayers, Blue Seed, Video Girl Ai, etc.) doing the sigh acting for Elle.

Fortunately, the television series released by ADV Films has grand hiss acting for both Japanese and English dub tracks.

Young Gau actually sounds like a teenage boy instead of a older man this time around and I was very joyful with the allege acting with the English dub track.

All in all, SHADOW SKILL is an delightful anime series. The characters are very sharp and each episode is exquisite.

The anime gets high marks but with no special features and the lack of the usual ADV 5.1 English dub track, I was a bit surprised by that.

If you are a fan of anime such as Slayers, Inuyasha and Fushigi Yuugi, I definitely recommend checking out SHADOW SKILL.

THE Level-headed AMERICAN is a successful and captivating adaptation of Graham Greene’s classic fresh. In 1952 a former British journalist (Michael Caine) is stationed in Saigon to screen the events of the French Indochina War. Caine meets a young idealistic American doctor (Brendan Fraser) at an outdoor cafe and they soon become friends. But soon enough their friendship becomes complicated when Fraser becomes attracted to Caine’s girlfriend (Do Thi Hai Yen) who is a gorgeous Vietnamese woman.

What follows is an often suspenseful film that addresses the battle of French colonialism against the Communist arrive from the north and the role of a third party to defeat the two obsolete enemies. Caught in the middle is Caine, Fraser and the woman that they both fancy as they navigate the dramatic changes which are occurring in Vietnam each day. Caine eye that people are not who they claim to be.

One of the most fair aspects of THE Serene AMERICAN is the cinematography by Christopher Doyle which captures the attractive green and lush Vietnamese countryside filled with mountains and lakes and rivers. I have to admit that prior to deeing this film I was not a titanic fan of Michael Caine, but his performance is admirable and convincing. I now understand why he was nominated for an Oscar — and I fill he is a strong contender. THE Still AMERICAN is one of the best films I have seen in some time.

Michael Caine has managed a substantial number of grand performances over the years, but this is probably his finest film in many, many years. Although Brendan Fraser and the remarkably fair Do Thi Hai Yen are favorable in the other two main roles, this film lives or dies with the character of Thomas Fowler. Thankfully, Caine is gorgeous. His performance is serene, nuanced, and remarkably subtle. It is paradoxically one of the most emotional performances he has given in some time, but at the same time one of his more subdued.

The film is location in Vietnam during the French war with the Communists of North Vietnam. It is also the time when the United States began their involvement in the country, doing their piece to stymie the spread of the Red Menace. The movie does a tremendous job of presenting the emerging complexities of the conflict. There are several comely scenes, in particular a terrorist bombing, which is one of the most brilliant and horrifying instances of onscreen violence that I have witnessed in some time. But the focus of the film always remains on the interplay of the personalities. The politics of the space is not ignored, but in the destroy the film is about people.

Director Philip Noyce had before 2002 been known primarily as a director of Hollywood action films, but after directing two of the finest films of this past year in THE RABBIT-PROOF FENCE and THE Collected AMERICAN, he has suddenly emerged as one of the finer directors of serious films. I don’t know what his next project is going to be, but I await it with ample eagerness. He keeps both the mood and the lighting of this film very, very shadowy. Most of the scenes remove status in shadows, in the evening, or in darkened rooms, as if it were an external manifestation of the internal ambiguity that permeates the film.

I have long wanted to ogle Brendan Fraser prefer on more serious roles, especially after seeing him in GODS AND MONSTERS. He is advantageous in comedy, but I have sometimes found the congenial idiots he so often portrays to be a exiguous irritating.

This is a wonderfully serious film, and it stands in stark difference to so many of the films coming out these days. It is a film that takes its time, with the director allowing scenes to manufacture slowly, never in a hasten to deliver his memoir. But I loved his epic style, and I can’t imagine any fan of film not being scared by Michael Caine’s masterful performance.

Released in 1989, HEATHERS received sharply mixed reviews. The film was favorite in a few major metro markets, but it proved a box office disappointment overall. Although many regarded it as a failed take-off on such “high school angst” films as THE BREAKFAST CLUB, more than a few critics saw it as a film too remarkable ahead of its time and predicted that it would have more of an impact down the road. They were suitable. When the film began to near the home market it exploded in popularity, and given such later high school horrors as Columbine today the film seems less take-off than downright prophetic.

It is also one of the most wickedly amusing movies to hit the veil since Stanley Kubrik’s DR. STRANGELOVE. The record starts off normally enough: extremely incandescent, extremely heavenly Veronica (Winona Ryder) is a high school junior who has fallen in with the high school clique to ruin all high school cliques, three young women each named Heather (Kim Walker, Lisanne Falk, and Shannen Doherty.) The Heathers are magnificent, sparkling, rich… and intent on shoring up their acquire social positions by crushing every one around them with a degree of vindictiveness that only the teenagers can successfully carry.

When Veronica meets fresh student J.D. Dean (Christian Slater) her interest in the Heathers begins to wane and they turn on her. J.D. has his gain thought to serve Veronica win even. If you prefer high school fondly, you were probably one of the current kids. For the rest of us, HEATHERS is so just that it will compose you wince in its portrait of unthinking cruelty: the meanness of the up-scale cliques and brainless jocks, the ridiculed obliging kids, the savage assaults on the unpopular ones. it is bitter, bitter stuff.

It is also extremely silly. Mighty of this is due to a truly lustrous script by Daniel Waters, who recognizes that teens rarely inform to adults in the same map that they screech to each other–and he not only brings forth the casually weak profanity, he essentially creates a truly believable and hilariously amusing mode of slang that characterizes the “in crowd.” And Waters’ spot is even more disconcerting and outrageously comical as it runs, with unexpected logic, to a truly deadly conclusion.

The performances are knockouts. Ryder has given quite a few memorable performances, but she has never been more distinguished than she is here as Veronica, the well-behaved girl turned unintentional killer; Christian Slater has never topped the performance he gives here as J.D. The “Heathers” are perfectly, flawless cast, as is every one from the weary considerable to Veronica’s vacuous parents. As for direction, Michael Lehmann moves the film at a swiftly clip, hitting more high points than you can imagine. Indeed, everything about the film is reliable.

The DVD package is very nice, including an engaging audio commentary, an engaging documentary featuring interviews with director, writer, and major cast members (Kim Walker, who died in 2001, sadly excepted), and a script of the ending as originally planned by writer Waters. I recommend the film as a “must have”–but a word of warning. If you were one of the very celebrated during your high school years, you won’t earn it in the least palatable. Yes: that’s really how the rest of us saw you.

For a lot of teenagers, popularity takes precedence over high SAT scores or early admission into an Ivy. It’s literally viewed as a matter of life or death, and no film brings that truth to life as vividly as “Heathers.” Winona Ryder is Veronica, who (along with Heather Duke, Heather McNamara, and Heather Chandler) belongs to Westerburg High School’s most elite and coveted clique. These four young women supposedly epitomize the essence of icy, and earning their impress of approval is as prestigious as getting knighted by Her Majesty. But things net inferior when Veronica violently clashes with one of the Heathers, and shortly thereafter the clique slowly collapses under its enjoy weight. Of course, there’s grand more to the film’s station, which is a bright satire on high school, the firece competition to be accepted and favorite, and the faculty’s inability to connect with their students. Pregnant with one-liners and armed with a Ginsu-sharp script, “Heathers” is a pitch-perfect comedy that’s wickedly comic. The best performances definitely belong to Ryder and then-unknown Shannen Doherty. Those who rolled their eyes at the “happily-ever-after” sentiment of “Sixteen Candles” have bonded with this film over the years, turing it into a exiguous scale classic. “Heathers” didn’t exactly region the box office on fire upon release in 1989, but it’s definitely grown in popularity since then. Give it a peer, and you’ll peek why.
